Peacock Bass Hunting @ Woodlands Town Park

Map of the vicinity

Woodlands Town Garden is a beautiful fishing location, located along Woodlands centre road and just a 5 minutes walk away from the nearby Marsiling MRT Station and the nearby bus-stops. According to the die-hard oldies there, there are reported to be Giant Snakeheads, Peacock Bass, Red Devils and Walking Catfishes in the pond. However, my kaki Joel and I decided to spent the 16th of December last year to hunt down the Peacock Bass that were reportedly there. To tackle the PB there, we decided to employ the use of Spin Flies to lure the bass,

   Spin Fly

The spin flies were tied by another angling kaki of mine from school called Roy. He is a talented angler who has managed to experiment and tie up effective flies for the Peacock Bass. We reached the Woodlands Town Garden early at 10 am and began casting our flies all around the pond.

We  made our way around the pond without luck, casting our flies for a couple of hours without any take on our flies. One of the uncles there saw our casting our flies and knew  that we were casting for the PB. He then suggested we try the top of the pond as he said that they were mostly there. Deciding to heed his advice, we headed over to the spot he suggested. After a couple of cast, BOOM!! A juvenile PB had chased my fly near to the bank!! Seeing that this spot could be productive, we carried on. Twitch, twitch, twitch and BOOM!! PB on the end of my line!! The take was fast and furious but the fight was short and sweet and in a matter of seconds, I had the little bugger on my boga grip.

First PB at location

Seeing my success, my buddy Joel also fished on and in a matter of moments he also had a PB on the end of his line!!

Fishing on we ended the afternoon with a couple of small PB's.

Throughout our day there, all the PB's that we caught we juveniles and the big boys remained elusive. Still a perfect place for beginners to start luring and a place I would definitely return to.

  1. thanks for sharing. sad that you didn't manage to catch the big boys tho. I caught a 100kg mermaid there last week.
